Elopement nas Alturas

Quando a Cami me contou onde seria o casamento, minha resposta veio antes da razão.

"Vamos."

Só depois comecei a entender o que aquela palavra significava.

Não existiria estrada.

Nem trilha comum.

Nem teleférico.

Para chegar ao local da cerimônia seria preciso subir uma via ferrata — uma rota de escalada equipada com cabos de aço — até uma cabana suspensa na montanha, a mais de 400 metros do chão.

Naquele momento, percebi que esse não seria apenas mais um destination wedding.

Seria uma aventura.

Alguns casamentos exigem muito mais do que uma câmera

Fotografar um casamento normalmente significa estar preparado para lidar com chuva, vento, atrasos ou mudanças de cronograma.

Mas, dessa vez, o desafio começava muito antes da cerimônia.

Cada equipamento precisava ser pensado.

Cada mochila.

Cada grama de peso faria diferença durante a subida.

E, enquanto caminhávamos em direção à montanha, uma única pergunta passava pela minha cabeça:

"Como é que eu aceitei isso tão rápido?"

A resposta era simples.

Porque algumas histórias aparecem apenas uma vez.

E vale a pena fazer um pouco mais de esforço para vivê-las.

Um altar suspenso entre as montanhas

Depois da subida, a paisagem respondeu por tudo.

A pequena cabana parecia flutuar entre as montanhas.

Silêncio.

Vento.

Um horizonte que parecia não ter fim.

Era difícil acreditar que aquele seria o cenário de um casamento.

Mas talvez justamente por isso tudo parecesse tão especial.

Ali, cercados por um dos lugares mais impressionantes que já fotografei, eles trocaram votos, alianças e promessas que carregariam para o resto da vida.

A aventura também faz parte da memória

Quando penso nesse casamento hoje, lembro da cerimônia.

Mas lembro também da subida.

Das conversas pelo caminho.

Do frio na barriga.

Da sensação de chegar ao topo.

Algumas histórias não são marcadas apenas pelo momento do "sim".

São marcadas por tudo o que foi preciso viver para chegar até ele.

E acho que poucas representam isso tão bem quanto esta.

Até hoje, esse continua sendo um dos trabalhos mais desafiadores que já realizei.

Mas também um dos mais inesquecíveis.

Não apenas pela paisagem.

Nem pela escalada.

Mas porque existem histórias que nos lembram por que escolhemos dizer "sim" antes mesmo de saber exatamente onde estamos nos metendo.

E, olhando para trás, ainda faria exatamente a mesma escolha.

When Cami first told me where they wanted to get married, my answer came before I had time to think.

"Let's do it."

Only afterward did I fully understand what that meant.

There would be no road.

No hiking trail.

No cable car.

To reach the ceremony, we would have to climb a via ferrata—a protected climbing route secured with steel cables—until we reached a tiny mountain cabin suspended more than 400 meters (1,300 feet) above the ground.

At that moment, I realized this wouldn't be just another destination elopement.

It would be an adventure.

Some weddings require much more than a camera

Photographing a wedding usually means being ready for rain, wind, schedule changes, or unexpected moments.

This time, the challenge started long before the ceremony.

Every piece of equipment had to be carefully considered.

Every backpack.

Every extra ounce of weight would make the climb harder.

And as we made our way up the mountain, one thought kept running through my mind:

"How did I say yes to this so quickly?"

The answer was simple.

Because some stories only come along once.

And they're worth every step it takes to reach them.

An altar suspended in the mountains

When we finally reached the top, the landscape answered every question.

The tiny cabin seemed to float between the mountains.

Silence.

Wind.

An endless horizon stretching in every direction.

It was hard to believe that this would become the setting for a wedding.

And perhaps that was exactly what made it so unforgettable.

Surrounded by one of the most breathtaking places I've ever photographed, they exchanged vows, rings, and promises that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Sometimes the adventure becomes part of the memory

When I think back on this wedding today, I remember the ceremony.

But I also remember the climb.

The conversations along the way.

The butterflies in my stomach.

The feeling of finally reaching the top.

Some weddings are remembered because of the moment they say "I do."

Others are remembered because of everything it took to get there.

And I can't think of a story that represents that better than this one.

To this day, this remains one of the most challenging weddings I've ever photographed.

But also one of the most rewarding.

Not only because of the incredible location.

Or the climb.

But because some stories remind us why we say "yes" before we fully understand where that decision might lead us.

Looking back now...

I'd make the very same choice again.

I hope that, as you explore this gallery, you'll feel a little of the excitement, courage, and wonder that surrounded this extraordinary day.

Because sometimes the journey becomes just as unforgettable as the destination.
